Default Help with Nested Families partially showing in elevation

I can't figure this out. I have a nested door family with a double door and transoms above. When I insert it looks fine. But if I flip the arrows the elevation doesn't show the door but does show the transom. Same thing if I mirror the door. See attached photos - door on right is inserted fine, door on left is mirrored. In 3D it looks fine. The interior view looks fine too.

I'm also attaching my family. Seems like a bug to me because the individual families work fine. It's only when I nest them that this occurs.

Please help quick becuase it's these silly little things that prevent me from getting my drawings out the door tomorrow.

    Thanks!

I hope I'm not too late.

I can't explain why but here is a version of your family that works on my pc.

Edited: After re-reading your post I probably am WAY too late...Sorry!

Roy, with your version if I mirror the door or flip the arrows the door appears fine but the transom is grayed out and only shows the frame but not the sash. Very strange. Can someone from the factory take a look at this for me. I notice this happen once before with a nested awning over fixed. Is there something wrong with my window families?

Ok I decided to rebuild my nested family to see I can figure this out. It still doesn't display properly for the exterior elevation view. Looks fine in 3D. Please Help!!!!!!

Attached is the latest nested family it has two windows based on the ones that came with Revit with no modifications to the geometry (in this case a double hung and casement just for testing purposes). I started a new window family and deleted the opening. Then I loaded in these two windows and align locked accordingly. The family flexes perfectly. But, when I load the nested family into a project it displays improperly in the elevations.

Once the window is inserted it looks great in all views. But if you flip the arrows or mirror it the exterior elevation doesn't show the sash for some reason. This is clearly a bug OR I did something wrong when I made my nested family. All of my mulled windows and doors do this (see my door with transom above).

Can someone please help me sort through this. I really can't get any work done if my elevations look like this.

This is a common occurence i've found when nesting any family into another. It usually been plans and showing cut that has been my problem. Never had problems with the elevations.

But typical workaround is when using nested families i always create a detail component to represent it in plan. So i'd suggest a similar thing for you with the elevation.

Temporary workaround also is to use the linework tool on the window in the project.

I had that happen after upgrading a project (...think 6 to 7.) I didn't have time to track down the problem. New windows inserted were ok. Old windows couldn't be fixed. We didn't want to replace the bad windows because we had all the dimensioning done. So I just opened the family and traced model lines on the face of the wall for the missing linework.

Ok for a workaround but what about a fix? This is happening with all of my mulled windows and doors. We use a lot of mulled units in our projects and I don't think line work is an acceptable Revit solution.

So, can we confirm that my window families are fine and that this is a bug? I've been putting in a lot of work on my gettign my windows to work with the parameters that I want and the last thing I want to do is start over if they're corrupted. Should I update the installation? Download the 8.0 beta and see what happens? Have any factory workers taken a look at this problem?

    I really appreciate the help.

I'd send a sample to the factory.

Just create detail components for each window type to represent the nested element in elevation. This has been my standard practice whenever using nested families. Just have to think of it as an extra step.

    Hello Noah,

The method I use is this: To create a door with a window above...
    Open the door family.
Click component button (if no component loaded Revit will ask if you want to load one - pick yes)
Select and open the window family I want.
Place the window above the door.
Use align tool and lock window into horizontal and vertical position.

I have attached some files using this method, I would be interested to know if they work on your system as they are fine on mine (may be a build issue!)
