Default Structural Columns joined to walls, Inserting doors in walls shows display problem

I have some Structural Columns which I have joined to walls (12mm Plaster - 100mm Concrete Block - 12mm Plaster). This shows the walls cut out to correctly show the structural column.

When I place a door into the wall the wall plan changes to show 12mm plaster - 50mm Concrete Block - 62mm plaster.

    Any ideas?

You could try splitting the wall at the column, then clicking the blue dots at the ends and selecting disallow join. You may have to add a single gyp layer (perhaps with furring) over the column. The problem is that the wall and column are not the same material, so when joined you get some odd behavior. You might also consider creating another wall type that is just furring and gyp. bd. and wrapping the column(s) with it, then see how the wall joins go.

Instead of joing the columns to the wall, try using a plan modifier.

What is a "plan modifier"? Care to elaborate?
