Trouble opening dwg

Hello:
I have a map of building footprints for Manhattan (NYC). I cannot open it. Message says it was created with a newer version of AutoCad..... We're running AutoCad Map 3D 2008.
Does anyone know an easy way to convert this, or have a map of Building Footprints for N.Y. City they would be willing to share. We need this for a thematic map for display purposes.

I think you just need to open it in new version of cad and save it in older format - I don't know any other way. If you want you can send drawing to me and I'll save it for you in older version (if it's safe and legal

Download TrueView (free) then save to 2007 version.

Thanks for the replies. Since we use real AutoCad we were not too familiar with Tru-View. We figured it out eventually on our own. We're still looking for a NYC Acad map. Think we might have to contact the upgrade people at ESRI to upgrade our antique ArcGIS........

Tue-view isAutoCAD with out any editting tools, it allows you to open currnt versions of dwg to view and save down to older version. The upgrade to 2012 AutoCAD Map3d may be a lot cheaper than the upgrade of E$RI.
