    Default Clash Batch Sorting

It would be helpful to have the ability to organize the clash batches in clash detective. I currently have some NWF files with 40+ batches and it's difficult to sort through them. I'd like to be able to move the higher priority batches towards the top and low priority to the bottom. Currently I think it sorts them as they were created.

The Batch tab is one of the few where the sort actually works by clicking on the top of the column. Now, the RULES tab could surely use a lot of help in that same area. I've got about 60 batches and upwards of 80 rules that can be selected.

I used to keep an excel spreadsheet up to date with which batches had which rules selected but, then I made the biggest mistake of all. I went in and numbered the rules.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT number your rules. They will become possessed, shuffle themselves better than a Vegas dealer can shuffle cards, then they'll recreate identical rules without the numbers and still have your numbered rules.. It's a total nightmare..

    Hope that helps,

Thanks. Yeah I guess I could just put another number in front of the name on the batches for priority.

Please tell me you're joking about that. I'm in the process of going through 60 batches on 7 different models and manually removing the rules I put numbers on. First I have to check the rules that NavisWorks recreated without the numbers (entirely on it's own) and then delete the numbered rules.

    Very timely and painful...

Sort them alphabetically and call it a day.. You'll actually be able to go home while it's still daylight instead of working insane hours trying to keep them sorted out.

I number my batches, usually by floor and then a corresponding number for the various batches

    For example:

    1-01 - Concrete Structure v Ductwork
    1-02 - Concrete Structure v Gravity Plumbing
    1-03 - Concrete Structure v Pressure Plumbing
    ...
    etc
    etc
    etc

This seems to work well for me. I do wish that you had the ability to create folders for your batches... rules as well.

+1 For batch numbering. I started doing it out of sorting necessity...now it just makes my life a whole lot easier.

I numbered mine in this way:

    1. Architecture vs Structure
    2. Architecture vs Electrical

and Navisworks continually shuffled my rules better than a veteran card dealer in Vegas.

Sometimes it would group all the numbered and checked rules together and delete the non-checked rules. Then it would make exact copies of the non-checked rules only without the numbers. I swear there's a gremlin in that program that just likes to mess with my rules..

And then there's always the problem with the first batch always changing the selection sets you've assigned to it... completely on it's own.. Sometimes it goes to the 4th or 5th batch but, pretty much 8-% of the time it will change the first one.

I wonder if it could be the period I'm putting in after the number?? I really can't test it on my work system as it'll screw up all my rules on the 7 buildings I've working on for this project and I'll spend hours going back through them.

I have found it especially handy to use my template idea. Set up your first NW model with all your rules checked the way you want them for the different batch. Then save that file.

Next file you start on (or you're already in the middle of) append that file into it and all your rules transfer as well as the batches and checks in the correct places. The importing of clash tests has NEVER worked for me. Even though I've sent countless error reports to Autodesk after the program crashed from trying to do it.

The best I can tell about rules is that they seem to be user specific, file specific, AND batch specific. That's a recipe for disaster. The batches themselves are far easier to keep organized with numbers...you're on your own with rules.
