    Unhappy xref file invalid

When I go to attach an xref a dialog box comes up stating the following:
    "ATTACH - Invalid File
    This file cannot be opened.
The problem can be caused by several things:
    - The data in the file is corrupted
    - The file is an earlier format that is no longer supported
    - Tha file format is not supported
Try to obtain a better copy of the file, recreate the file using diffrent settings, of convert the file to a supported file format."
I have tried all the suggestions, I have tried imputting from the xref dialog box and no matter what file i try to insert beit dwg, pdf, image, etc. it gives me the same error. I have purged my drawing, i have audited my drawing. I have opened it on another computer and it did the same thing which makes me to believe it is the file not the software. But now it does it on every file. Could the file have corrupted the software to where I need to reinstall. Any help would be appreciated!

How long is the path to the location of the files? I've seen similar messages when the network path was extremely long.

I don't know... it won't let me get that far.
but if you mean to the cad file itself its its 6 files deep. I will save to my desktop and see if that helps...

When you browse to and attempt to attach the references, how "deep" are the files? Adding togther the folder names and the files names, is it a large number of characters? Are you using Relative Paths or Full Paths?

As a test, try copying all of the files to a single folder on your computer (very short path) and try attaching them from that location.
