Angry 2012 Display & Hardware Acceleration Issues

Trying out 2012 prior to deployment so far so good, but one issue is driving me nuts.

If I enable hardware acceleration the cross hairs stutter across the screen, selection is slow, panning is jerky. The weird part is if I re-size my workspace window down from full screen to lets say half size, performance increases. I am currently at 1900 x 1200 res on a 24" monitor. 2008 & 2010 had no issues like this what so ever.

If i disable hardware acceleration, the problem goes away. I know it seems easy to say, well just disable it, but I need it for some 3d modeling coming up. All hardware is up to snuff, its not a super powerhouse, but its got some torque, and as said, has no problems with the other versions used.

One thing I am thinking about trying is a clean install with out migrating the settings, and doing that after the fact. Any help on this is appreciated, and thanked in advance.

    System Specs here;

    XP Pro 32bit on Novell <--- I know :P
    2.5 ghz quad AMD
    4gb physical ram (3.5 util)
EVGA 9600 GT <--- drivers just updated today, and old drivers attempted.

    Thanks

Addition: also forgot that something as simple as having the command line on a different monitor (dual screens) drastically reduced drawing time. It seems that for this to work most efficiently it needs to be on a single screen. Another greatly buggy release from Autodesk. Oh how I loathe thee sometimes.

This may be a limitation of XP, rather than AutoCAD. I seem to remember that XP only supports acceleration on the primary monitor. I could be completely and totally out to lunch though.

Also, which driver are you using? AutoDesk? OpenGL? DirectX?

I am guessing DirectX since it seems that NVDIA no longer has OpenGL for their older cards, only the Quadros & Fermi have it available now.

I tried to find Autodesk approved drivers for my 9600GT and it found none, but recommended an older NVIDIA 260.99 release (new id 266.5. Tried both with no success.

I was thinking it might be XP as well, however, 2008 / 2010 had no problems using hardware acceleration on dual monitors.

PS: Is it even possible to use the Autodesk NVIDIA drivers on a non-Quadro card?

You did look at what was set when you were turning hardware acceleration on and off, yes? No need to guess - its in the same "Manual tuning" dialog.

Doesn't specify the same as the older Versions.

Here is what the tune log says when acceleration is enabled,

    ---------------------
    Processor Speed : 2.5 GHz
    RAM : 3327 MB

    3D Device
    ---------
Name : NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
    Manufacturer : NVIDIA
Chip set : GeForce 9600 GT
    Memory : 512.0 MB
    Driver : 6.14.0012.6658

Your machine contains a 3D Device that is not certified.

As more graphics cards and 3D display drivers are tested, they are added to a list on the Autodesk website.

You can check for updates and download the latest certification list at any time. Run the 3DCONFIG command and click the Check for Updates button.

    Current application driver: acaddm10.hdi

It isn't possible to use the nVidia AutoCAD Performance drivers on a non-Quadro card 'tho', since you are on 32-bit XP, Riva Tuner is worth a look (but probably won't be approved by I.T. departments).

No problem there, the CAD department here oversees our own desktops. We break 'em we fix 'em sort of mentality. I am familiar with RivaTuner on my gaming platform (mostly overclocking), yet I have never used it to force drivers on a per application basis. I'll give it a shot, anything is worth a try right now.

Edit: I see what you did there. I'll do some research on the emulation process to see how it works.

    Update:

Rivatuner strap drivers not supported on any G9x cores (most 8800 / 9600 range cards). NVIDIA has locked it up at a hardware level, so no emulating on my 9600GT...

So it looks like a new card is in the works, probably one that can emulate Quadro tech. I don't work in 3D all day so a full on Quadro would be a waste of money. And frankly, I don't want to pay NVIDIA the extra cash, I wish I had the same option with Autodesk. 2012 looks like another buggy version.

Ah. My 8800GTS is an early one and RT did work on it under WinXP.

    Update for those following...

It was the dual monitors. I removed one as a last resort check, hardware accelleration is now on and performance is as it should be. No more stuttering or glitching, the card is working as it should, under load when rendering. So for those with dual monitors (and I am assuming on an NVIDIA card) be aware that 2012 may cause issues for you.
