A lwpolyline is a single object Lineweight, Elevation, Plot Style and the properties you described apply to the entire object. Otherwize a group of contours with thousands of segments would increase a thousand times in size if each segment had individual properties. Why not explode the polyline and group it afterwards? Then you could toggle Groups off/on with Ctrl+H and modify each segment to your hearts content.

They *might* be able to get clever and assign lists of values for each property to the LWPOLY entity (e.g. linetype property as "BYLAYER;DASHED;DOT", color as "BYLAYER;RED;YELLOW"), with each segment using a list index to refer back to the specific property. Still, as mentioned with a large number of different properties those "light" PLINE won't be.
