Autocad Shape Files Problem ...

Hello Guys,

Someone sent me a .dwg files and that must reference to some .shx (shape file). In another folder I have received the shape files also in .shx and .shp format.

My question is how to set these external shape file in Autocad setting (for that .dwg). Please explain me the procedure for referencing these external shape files.

I just point the folder path (external shape files) under Options > Support File Search Path. I don't know whether this is right or wrong. Please let me know.

if it's a font, then the .shx files ought to be in a folder on the support path. if it's a shape used in a linetype or as a symbol, then you can keep it in the same folder as the drawing.

Do we need to try the load command to load the shape files or it will take automatically, if I keep them on the same folder as the drawing?

if the shape files are used in a linetype or a font, they should not need to be loaded separately. IIRC the LOAD command for shapes in only meaningful when you are using a shape as a symbol, and that's pretty uncommon today. Blocks are so much simpler to manage and work with
