Question remove block definition from template

I need to remove old block definitions and replace them with new block definitions. Right now, when i go to insert a block, the pull down at the top of the window gives me all of the old blocks. I want to see the new block names in the pull down box instead of the old ones. If i go to browse i can get to the correct folder but i do not want someone else in the firm forgetting to do this and inserting an old block. Is there a way to remove and replace the old block definitions with the new block definitions without having to create a new drawing template

If you browse to the new block def (while you're editing the template), it will ask you to overwrite the existing block def. Do this for all the blocks you are updating. Save the template and share it with the others.

Thank you, however, the old blocks are still showing up in the pull down menu. I do not want the old ones to be in there so there is no confusion as to which ones they should be using.

That is a separate issue than that of the block definition included within your template.

If you include a 'button' in your customized CUI, then perhaps you need to update the image for the Menu/Toolbar/Ribbon Button as well?

The old blocks also continue to show up in the Design Center. I do not want any old blocks associated with the updated template. How do I keep from seeing the old blocks in the "insert" pull down menu and the design center???

Nothing has ever been customized in the CUI.

    Thanks

exactly where do you have the new blocks? are they all defined in a single drawing file, or is each written out to file as a separate dwg?

Each are written to a separate drawing file. the new ones are in a located in a different folder than the old ones as well.

simplest thing is probably to create a new, empty drawing, and drog/drop all the new blocks from Windows Explorer into that drawing, and save it.

the open the drawings that have the blocks you want to replace, and use ADC to navigate to that new drawing you just created and stuffed all the blocks into. From the Blocks area of that drawing, drag the new block into you old drawing. you should be prompted to redefine the old block
