I think you can make it with one rectangular adaptive component. There are three scales of the grid, we'll call them L, M, S (for large, medium, and small). L is a 1x1 rectangular frame. M is a 2x2 rectangular frame. S is a 4x4 rectangular frame.
1. Create a single rectangular frame adaptive component, call it "L".
2. Create another adaptive component called "M" with a point centered in the rectangle and one at each midpoint of the bounding rectangle.
3. Save as... the "M" component as "S".
4. In M, load the L component and place it four times to create the 2x2 grid. That's why we made all the extra points in step 2.
5. In S, load the M component and place it four times to create a 2x2 grid, each with a 2x2 grid, so a 4x4 grid.
5. Create the conceptual mass and and divide each surface using the smallest increment shown with a rotated rectangular grid. Load L, M, and S and populate the mass with each as required.
Attached is a quick attempt. It could definitely be refined a lot, but it should get you started.
