    Default WGS84 to NAD83

I recently received a topo from a company we outsourced the survey work to, upon opening the file I find it's coordinate system set up to WGS84, generally we use NAD83 Iowa North or South. I am not familiar with WGS84, and frankly I am not familiar with many of the coordinate systems out there.

    My questions are

What is WGS84? is it similar to NAD83?
Is there away to convert or transfer thru C3D this WGS84 to NAD83 Iowa North?
IF not are the Northing and Eastings going to be the same?

Is this file done in CIVIL 3D? If yes then you can use the Coordinate Zone Conversion tab.

Or if this data is 'only' points and Lines....export to Autocad...
Open with MAP and assign the known CS to the file. Save and Close

Open a NEW Civil 3D file, asign the desired Coordinate system to the file.
use MAP, and verify that the cesired CS is assigned.

Attach a a source file the drawing you created in the steps above.
Querry in everything, MAP will translate the data on the way in.

On the Pointss Creation Toolbar 0r the Points drop down menu you can convert the 'autocad' points into C3d points, and have a nice day!

NOTE:Some might suggest use of the Export to SDF as well.

The coordinate origin of WGS 84 is meant to be located at the Earth's center of mass; the error is believed to be less than 2 cm.[2]

The WGS 84 meridian of zero longitude is the IERS Reference Meridian,[3] 5.31 arc seconds east of the Greenwich Prime Meridian, or 102.5 metres (336.3 feet) at the latitude of the Royal Observatory.[4][5]

The WGS 84 datum surface is an oblate spheroid (ellipsoid) with major (transverse) radius a = 6,378,137 m at the equator and flattening f = 1/298.257223563.[6] The polar semi-minor (conjugate) radius b then equals a times (1 - f), or 6,356,752.3142 m.[7]

Presently WGS 84 uses the 1996 Earth Gravitational Model (EGM96) geoid, revised in 2004. This geoid defines the nominal sea level surface by means of a spherical harmonics series of degree 360 (which provides about 100 km horizontal resolution).[8] The deviations of the EGM96 geoid from the WGS 84 reference ellipsoid range from about -105 m to about +85 m.[9] EGM96 differs from the original WGS 84 geoid, referred to as EGM84.

    Thanks for the reply,

So the MAP query didn't work, the process goes thru but there are more than a few translation errors.
The process does go thru and an image shows up, but it still doesn't line up with the company's survey work.
Also tried the SDF and that didn't work. But there are alot of options in the MAP Export to SDF so clicking something on or not might have a lot to do with its issues.

I am just going to call them and ask them to convert it to the CS I want to see it in.
