Default Tool palette layer vs layer in block

    Hi Guys !

As sample, I have a block consisting of a stove and a cabinet above.

The stove is on "Electric" layer and the cabinet on "Woodwork" layer.

In the tool palette properties of my block, I set the layer to "Blocks".

    My question is:

If I freeze the "Blocks" layer, my block disappears, is there a variable to tell to Autocad, do not use the layer property in the tool palette... The only way I found it's to use the layer 0 and never freeze or off this layer...

    Thanks in advance !

First of all, never freeze layer 0. It is a special layer used by acad.

Even if you change the ents in the block from ByLayer/ByBlock to a single color, if you freeze the layer the block is inserted on, you will loose the block. And no, you can't tell acad to ignore layers, because freezing works only on layers. All you can do is put it on a different layer.

Create a temporary block for insertion purposes. Within this temporary block, insert your STOVE block and place it on the desired "ELECTRIC" layer. Place this temporary block in your block library. Now you can update your Tool Palette to point to this temporary block. However, you will need to set this temporary block to be exploded upon insertion from the Tool Palette.
