Exclamation Drawings vs Documents Dept Battle

Hey Folks . . a battle is starting to rage where I work.

The Records Dept that handles storage of all letters, manuals, specs etc now wants to control all AutoCAD Files.

Does any one have ideas I can use against this crazy plot?

What type of vault software are they using for storing the electronic cad files?

Cyco Systems had a pretty good storage software program, for vaulting autocad files, but it was difficult to master...and time consuming to pull up old drawings...
If they think they can just lump it all onto some separate server....good luck looking things up after that....

Give em a copy of AutoCad and make them figure it out.
After a long walk off a short peer, they will forget about it.

We are using Cimage right now to hold completed drawings but the Record Dept is switching every dept over to something called Live Link.

The Record Dept head is power hungry, she wants to even take control of E-mail, and all scanners and printers away from the I.T. Dept . . . cause they generate documents.

Have them take a look at that link...automanager workflow was a good program, but somewhat hard to get used too, but it was worth it...and I used it years ago....so it would be much better and easier to use now I would imagine...

Next thing you know, they will want to take over your computers and cad software.....cause they generate documents.

We lost the battle years ago. Once we release our drawings they get stored electronically in our document control group.

Question: In what way will this effect the way your department does its work? I assume you'll still control drawing file creation and modification via a network. Are we talking a simple change in file storage location and back-up or are we talking something much more involved? In short: As we're not familiar with the practices and hardware/software capabilities of your department and company, what is the scope of the change we are talking about?

why are they interested in the AutoCAD file? The signed drawings should be what they are interested in because that's what counts legally.
