Question Kitchen Sink Family - Cutting Host

    Hi All,

After working through Revit's Guide to creating custom family's, I'm trying to make my first family. This is supposed to be a commercial kitchen sink which will (hopefully) be hosted by a variety of S/S benches. Thus, I need to be able to cut the host bench.

I've tried "Generic Face Based" & "Generic Line Based" families but haven't figured out how to cut the bench when importing the sink into my project. Is this even possible? If this has been covered in another thread would anyone be able to point me in the right direction?

    Thanks
    Deepesh

You should try nesting the sink family into the work surface family. Add a Family Type parameter to this nested sink, to allow for swapping it out in the future.

You should also change your Generic Face Based Sink Family to a more appropriate family type, like Plumbing Fixture family.

Make sure you assign the proper Assembly Code Number and Omniclassification Number as well.

    Hope this helps,
    Jeff S.

In your family (Revit 2012) you want to have "Cut with Voids when Loaded" ticked. Then you create a void around your sink. When loaded into your project, your sink can now cut certain categories of objects.
Unfortunately Casework is not included in the cuttable category, so we do our benchtops as Generic Models, sub category Casework to allow sinks to cut, and also so we can join our benchtops together (to get L shape etc) without seeing the line of the join

Thanks Jeff - I'll try to work through your suggestions.

Thanks Alex - Unfortunately, I'm still using 2011 (Where this option doesn't exist)

    Hi
What will be the correct line of joining for the casework of sink.
