    Question AutoCAD lost the Ribbon

We are using AutoCAD 2009 with GTX RasterCAD to edit our raster files. I am running on a Lenovo work station with Windows XP Professional. I have 3 GB of RAM and a 2.83 GHz processor. Everything was working fine Friday when I logged of but today when I opened it there was no Ribbon. All I get at the top of the page is the following message "The Ribbon does not have any tabs or panels currently attached". I can type the commands, either AutoCAD or GTX RasterCAD,and they work fine. Does anyone have an idea what happened to the Ribbon?

I have no idea what happened to it, but if you reset your current workspace, it should return it, assuming the workspace hasnt become corrupted.

Went to change my workspace and only had two choices - 'Customize or Save Current'. My guess is that it was corrupted somehow when I logged off last week. Will try to re-install and see if that helps. Thanks for your help ccowgill.

prior to doing a reinstall, if you open up the cui editor, you may be able to restore workspace from there, or just manually rebuild what you had on your ribbon.

It helps to stay aware of what your current Main and Enterprise CUIx files are - this determines where workspaces are saved. Some third party applications set their own CUIx as Main by default while others try to load it partial to the main. Under both circumstances they usually make it Main if there is no Main set. When the Main changes like this, AutoCAD in trying to re-establish the last used workspace and Ribbon settings, can't find things where they were and BLAMMO. Workspace gone, no Ribbon tabs 'n' panels.

Under options set another profile current. If you don't have another one saves that fits your needs try switching back. Reloading the profile this way may fix the problem. I have a backup profile for each of the ones I use just in case. I've had the same thing happen to me before.

I tried changing my profile to the 'Vanilla' profile. I got my Ribbon back but then it could not find a bunch of dll files. Reinstalled AutoCAD and everything is back to normal.

Simply switching workspaces should have done it.

Are you suggesting that one be used or asking if one was? They are notorious for axing acad. In either case, the ribbon is cui/file based. The registry is not involved. You can get this problem if changes were made when there is no workspace active. Switching should fix it.
