    Default Drawing will not open

I have a drawing that won't open. I figured out that the problem is with one of the xrefs, so I tried to go into the xref and that won't open either. I ran recover on both drawings and it won't open. Both times AutoCAD just freezes up. I have no idea where to go from here. Any suggestions?
It's weird because I was working on it earlier today and it was fine.

What version are you using? I was able to use Recover in Map3D 2012 amd open the file. Recover advised 1 object erased.

Opening also indicated that the DWG was not from Autodesk, and has AEC objects in it. If I use _aecexporttoautod, I can dumb it down and save back to a lower version.

A suggestion to minimize future problems. Do not use bang characters, spaces, or punctuation in layer names, eg. exclamation points, periods, etc. life will be smoother if you limit layer names to alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and underscores. so your !111 WINDOWS should be _111-WINDOWS

more reliable overall if you follow the KISS principle.

I'm using autocad 2007. I was able to have someone else open it and fix it.
I don't usually use complicated layer names. This drawing was sent to me with those it in. But from now on I will be more careful about erasing them right away.
    Thanks so much!
