Xref - This file cannot be opened.

Hi,

I seem to be having an issue with Autocad 2012. I noticed it when I first installed it but didn't need to use it until now.

When I want to attach an Xref, I open the Xref dialog box, and click on the 'DWG' icon I selected, I keep getting this error:

This file cannot be opened.

The problem can be caused by several things:
-The data in the file is corrupt
- The file is an earlier format that is no longer supported
- The file format is not supported

Try to obtain a better copy of the file, recreate the file using different settings, or convert the file to a supported file format.

This happens with any xref file type selected and when attaching an Xref using another method. The only time Xref does work is when I use '-xref' command and attach it from the command line. The file path length is short, so I crossed that solution out.

Have you checked to make sure that the file does NOT have one of the problems mentioned? e.g. can you open the xref directly (opening upgrades old files) and save it then try xref again?

I am experiencing the same problem.....let me try to clarify a bit....?

When I type in the Xattach command I immediately get the the message above (see attachment). I do not get to the point where I select a file to attach. I have checked the FileDia, Attdia, Cmddia variables that might affect this and they seem to be set correctly. I can attach a file via the command line it appears that the file selection dialog box is not opening with the Xattach command.

When AutoCAD 2012 was first installed everything worked correctly.......however, I believe our IT department installed some AutoCAD updates / patches last week and after that the problem started.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
