Default MEP Family parameter to shared parameter

I am trying to convert an electrical fixture face based family parameter (constraints) "default elevation" to a shared parameter (constraints) "default elevation" so I can use a tag to show the elevation above floor. The parameter converter provided by Revit will not do this. Any ideas?

That particular 'change' can not be done.
The only way I know of to get access to inaccessible parameter fields is to use additional programming.
I wrote about this in another blog spot:

and read about the Public Downloads he has.

1st, default elevation is just default elevation, not the real elevation after you place it in project.
2nd, you can create SP in family, and set to = default elevation in formula, you'll be able to tag it.

    Ning Zhou:
I don't think that will work. In my experiments, in the Family Editor, editing a receptacle, I make a shared parameter = Default Elevation. Once I bring the receptacle into the project however, Default Elevation is no longer listed, it is just Elevation. Consequently, my shared parameter does not update. If I go back into the Family Editor and add my own Elevation shared parameter, it is lost when once I load it back into the project.

Let us know if you are having success, and how you did it.

we've used an additional shared parameter to control "elevation" even though it is just a length parameter. This requires the actual elevation be set to "0" so that it does not disrupt where the device is located within the model.

My results were the same as Dennis'. I wanted to tag the height because all of my devices automatically insert at 0" unless I tell them otherwise. I do this so that the elevation shown when you click on an object is the actual elevation, not the insertion point. A tag reading that would be helpful, but since any deviation from standard is rare, I will just use a piece of text to denote variations. Thanks for all the input.
