Default Joining column adds material and doubles count

    Hi everyone,

I was doing a material takeoff in a column schedule and noticed something a bit confussing. Hoping someone could explain it to me as it looks like something that could become dangerous if care isn't taken.

I have a stub column whose base I want to attach to a structural framing member. I am using a metieral schedule to keep track of my structural members. If I leave the column unattached then the material schedule works fine, calling the columns out with the correct number and the material properties. However, if I attach the base, then the column duplicates in the schedule with a new material propery (in this case it seems to be the material of the framing member it is attached to). The images attached show what's happening.

Any idea why simply attaching a column leads it to becoming duplicated in my schedule?

    Thanks,
