    Cool Creating Layer Color Problem

Has anyone else seen this in AC 2012? After creating a new layer in the Layer Manager, I will change the color and/or linetype. The change is shown in the manager, but when I set the layer current and draw, the line has the properties of the layer that was selected when I created a new layer even when the Layer Manager is re-opened and the layer shows the changed color and linetype.

However, after I create the layer and change the color and draw with properties other than what is assigned in the LM, I can also change the layer props in the Layer Pull-down in the Ribbon, which shows layer props as I draw and not like the LM, and that does work.

    Is this a bug?

    Yes, I've seen it.
No, I don't know the answer but you can use CLASSICLAYERS which doesn't have the problem IIRC.
It's one of the reasons I went back to using 2010.

Not sure if I'm following you, You create a layer in layer manager with a color and other properties, then you set the layer current, close out of LM and start drawing, and it's not correct?

Are you sure you after you close out LM you are drawing ByLayer?
    (see screenshots of layer toolbar)

Im not in ACA 2012 so I don't know if it's a bug, just throwing it out there.

I always draw with color Bylayer.

In LM (called up by typing "la"-enter), I select new layer button on the the top of list and it uses the settings of the layer above it. Then I change the props for that layer in the same window such as color. In that window the color shows it changed, but when I draw it is not changed.

What is the difference between the LM and CLASSICLAYERS? They look the same.

Changes made in the newer Palette version are supposed to happen as you make them, with the classic layer command changes are made when you click ok. The newer Palette version has been buggy since it was introduced. I generally like to get the next version as soon as it's released and like most of the new features. I switched to the Classic Layer Dialog Box a few days after using the Palette version for the first time.
    From my acad.lsp file:
    Code:
(if (/= (getvar "LayerDlgMode") 0)(progn(setvar "LayerDlgMode" 0)(princ "\nSets Classic Layer Dialog Box.")))

This is a known problem that still occurs in 2012. We'll see if it's fixed in 2013. But you cannot go directly from naming a new layer to selecting a color or you'll get this behavior. Do something else first... set the linetype, or create the layer description, or something... then come back and set the color. Then it'll hold. But if you establish the color right after naming the layer, leave, and try to use the layer, the color is very likely going to default to the color of the layer you just used.

Until they fix this we have to work around it.
