    Default Dimension Text Fit Options

When dimensioning I very frequently have situations where the text & arrows need to go outside of the dimension. I know how to do this by using the dim style editor , fit tab, and select beside dimension line.

The problem is, i don't always want it like that. If I have a continuous run of dimensions, I want it over dimension line, with leader. But if I don't have a continuous run (see picture) I want it beside the dimension.

Another thing is how do I control which side the text goes on? In the case of the picture attached, I need one to go to the left and one to the right.

Any help would be much, much, much appreciated.

You could create two different styles or you could allow manual placement of text.
Which side the text goes is controlled by the order in which you pick the two dimension start points.

I'm almost ashamed to admit how long it took me to figure that out!
