This is a workflow that I've been able to use.
Create a new detail view, and name it "Symbol Copy Resource". Scale of the view is not important. This will be a source view for any "reference other view" detail symbols you might want to add into other views in your project at later time. Add a "reference other view" symbol, and choose the Referenced view you want. Place the detail symbol. Then select the symbol, and copy it to the clipboard.
Go to the Legend view, and Paste from clipboard. Then you can reposition and adjust the symbol as needed. Multiple symbols can also be copied and pasted at once as well.
Any of the "reference other view" symbols can be used in any other view simply by copying and pasting to the other view. Go back to your original "Symbol Copy Resource" detail view for the copy source. In this resource detail view you could also add text notes beside each detail symbol to tell you what the detail is referring to for ease of later copying and placement. I find this a little easier and less time consuming for some repeatedly used detail references compared to always starting the "reference other view" command from the beginning and having to wade through the long list.
