Exclamation 2013: Transfer View Types Between Projects

    Hello All,

I am trying to help setup project files for a 1M+ SQFT project. We are taking the route of breaking up the separate buildings. What we're trying to do is setup everything in advance (worksets, project parameters, Browser Org & View Types). Most of these items are able to be 'Transfer Project Standards' from one file to another. We have found that we're unable to transfer view types (which are new to RA 2013). We don't want to get to far down the road in creating these 9+ models, only to go back and recreate these. Am I missing something, or is this just not possible. Please let me know if there is any hope on this topic.

The flip side of the coin is we have people waiting to start modeling, but we don't have models started.

    Thank you in advance,

    Jeff S.

Maybe set it all up in a template and create each model from that template? Also new in 2013 is the ability to specify different templates, so you could add that one and then just start each project/model file from that template.

    Good morning Patrick,

That's what we're trying to accomplish prior to setting up the Building files, but we're running out of time. We have taken the project specific template as far as we can, but we're still working on setting up worksets & the project Browser Organization. The issue is, we're not able to transfer view types from one project to another. Again, this is a new feature to RA 2013, and we're trying to react/improve our work flow and browser org. We don't want users having to do this for the 9+ models we're going to generate.

    Thanks,

    Jeff S.

I haven't had time to look at it much myself yet. Can you not create your View Types in the template file?

Or, get one file set up the way you want it and save that as a Template file. Unfortunately you can't save a workshared file as a template file, so you would have to open that file detached and remove worksets in order to save it as a template.
