    Default Revit file bloated

I created a family for all the chairs I am using in our projects, I made it in one floor based family (since the buildings I am working have several levels on the same floor.
This is cca 25 unshared generic family in one family. it is 13 MB. when I load this into a new project file (2MB) that gets bloated up to more than 110MB.
What did I do wrong or what can I do?

    Thanks in advance, Richard

That is one monster family, I wouldn't approach it that way. Make one family for each style of chair.

    Richard,

You have created a Chair family that has 25 nested chairs in it? When you place it into your project, your project swells to 110MB. How many instances of this family do you have placed around your project file? What is the purpose of having all of those chair types in your project? Are you rendering these? Or, is it just for documentation? If it is for documentation, I would clean out this family to bare minimum, and have types for each of these chairs associated with a chair schedule & tag. If you're not careful you'll have to break out your furniture package from your Architectural model. I would also not use floor hosted content. If your working with a linked model, I don't think content host. If the floor gets deleted, so does all your content hosted to that floor.

    Best of Luck,
    Jeff S.

I made this giant as this is all the standard chairs we are using.
I made floor hosted as the buildings we do have several levels per floor.
I took your advise and broke it up since.
However it left me baffled why it bloated to 105 MB when I did NOT have one instance in an empty template.
The size of the family is 13MB and just inserted into an empty template. Had not placed any instance.
Anyway, breaking it up solved the problem. Thank you!

    Richard,

Why do you have several levels per floor? Could you use a named reference plane instead of another level for your workflow? I'm just trying to understand your firms workflow.

    Thanks,
    Jeff S.
