Default @ symbol in font names

I'm a bit curious about this -- it seems that in the AutoCAD Style dialog, and in no other application I've used, there are duplicate font names, with a @ symbol prefacing the name fo many TTF fonts and moving that entry to the top of the list. It doesn't happen to every font, but the list of affected font names seems to grow over time, and differs between computers.

for example, The Windows font folder shows a "Batang Regular" font, while AutoCAD shows both a "@BATANG" and a "BATANG" font. None of the impacted fonts are one I recall ever using.

    Anyone know why this happens?

What if you close all drawings and remove the "BATANG" font from AutoCAD font folder?
Will it make any difference when restart AutoCAD?

these fonts are not in the Acad font folder -- all the impacted fonts are TrueTypes installed in Windows

I wonder if it's some sort of differentiation between normal TTF and OTF fonts. Or perhaps the normal ANSI fonts and UniCode fonts.

It seems to be that the @ fonts are those in the Windows/Fonts folder with a TTC extension (i.e. Compressed TTF or TTF Collection), at least from a cursory check, the @BATANG is in a file Batang.TTC, while Arial is in Arial.TTF. Probably some sort of hold-over from older ACad's when they only started to become true windows programs - i.e. they loaded the fonts through some custom coding instead of using the normal windows libraries.

I completely searched my hard drive and registry for any reference to these fonts. There are no font files named this way and no internal font names that I can find. The only thing I found was that MS Office has 2 keys containing data that list these font names. They are: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\MathFonts; HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Panose. You may also find them listed again under HKU. Apparently Office and other programs that use font selection are able to filter out these names. AutoCAD should be able to as well.

I submitted a tech support call. They had no requests in their db, so we submitted it as a bug.

Could this be related to font substitution, or "big" fonts?

I don't think there's any tie-in to the old school 'big fonts'. Looking at Batang in characher map, it seems to be a full unicode, with a huge set of characters, from CJK ideograms to Hangul and Kakatana along with windgdings, bullets, block drawing, cyrillic, and roman characters. Detail view in the fonts folder shows it as "Designed for" Korean.

damifino why it's here, or why it shows up twice. i'll vote for Ed and let Acad dev's handle the double appearance as a bug.

They don't appear to be actual fonts. I couldn't find any reference to them at microsoft.com.

    My system:
    Win7 64bit
AutoCAD Mech v2011 (included in the package of Inventor pro v2011)

Did you add (install) any fonts not shipped with Windows or AutoCAD?
