    Default Modeling Screw Threads

    Afternoon all.

I'm having difficulty modeling the screw threads on a wood screw. I can manage the coil mostly, except on the pointed part of the screw. I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to taper the actual thread so that it terminates into the tip. Just to clarify, the coil is tapered down to the tip, I need to get the thread to taper around the coil until termination.

Any input anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Another way to put it would be to say that on each revolution, the pitch remains the same, but the major diameter diminishes until, at the point, it is 0. So, from the point where the tip begins to taper, the major is at the full thread, and at the tip, nada.

I would go with a 3D sketch and extrude along path for that part, then cut off the very tip using 'Draft face'. Would this work for you ?

Have you tried the Thread Modeler plugin from Autodesk Labs?

You could also trying creating a 3D sketch and sweep over that 3D path. Or try Coil for the point end of the thread.
