Default Calculate Length Thru Pipe, Duct, Conduit, Cable Tray, etc.

Summary: Calculate Length Thru Pipe, Duct, Conduit, Cable Tray, etc.

Description: This was a post in the Interim Submission Cycle by Phil Pleiss of Merrick & Company. Just wanted to list it again in case this submission cycle is different as this would be a High Ranking item to me. This feature would make laying out conduit in Revit actually worth while. Thanks.

Actual Post from Interim Submission Cycle:
"It would be nice if there was a way to calculate length thru a run of pipes, ducts, conduit and cable tray. It would also be nice to calcualte this length with the fittings in place too."

Can you elaborate how you would use this length information?

There is already a way to find the length of a run by using the 'Measure' tool, clicking the 'Chain' box, and picking along the run.

Not sure if this is what you want but it is possible to get the lengths of Pipe, Duct, Conduit, Cable Trays, etc if you have set up your systems well enough. You can create schedules which are grouped/sorted by system and size and this can give you for instance the total length of 200mm diameter pipe in the chilled water system CHW-1. It will not include fittings though.

If you are using conduits, you can still schedule the entire length INCLUDING bends using the 'Conduit without Fittings' family. Again, if it's set up properly, you could either get a total distance PER RUN, or total distance PER CONDUIT SIZE.
