Default Elevation Tag - OH SO CLOSE

I have a modified elevation tag that works just fine if the dividing line between the Number and Sheet is horizontal. Any other rotation auto-rotates that line. All I need is that line to be horizontal at any rotation and I will be a happy camper.
See the image for the error.
    Thanks in advance!

I've tried a line in the pointer and/or the mark body family. I've tried a piece of text with all underscores. Currently I have two white semicircle filled regions. Nothing stays put.

Sorry to say, but you can't have lines that don't rotate in elevation families (even though you can in section families). This has bugged me since they gave us the ability to edit them, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed they fix it in 2014.

It is possible. The credit goes to David William Edwards, who posted the instructions in the Autodesk forums some time ago. It cannot rotate to any random angle, but at least all the angles that you prepare in advance, in the elevation symbol. The idea is to put in the family as many pointers as possible orientations you might need.

That's true, but the OP said "at any angle" which, as you stated, David's workaround "cannot rotate to any random angle". Like Alfredo said, though, you can "prepare in advance" any angle you need and load that into that family to get those to work, you just have to make that part of your process for all projects if they have more than simple 90deg angles.

The best solution is to just use your interior elevation callout for non-perpendicular walls, so it auto aligns to any angle. It will have the detail number outside the bubble. I know all the old timers want to shoehorn their standards into Revit at all cost, but they must compromise.

That's not an "old timer" thing. It's an architectural graphic standard. I'm willing to compromise on a good many things (including the ugly elevation mark), but 90% of the architectural firms out there use this standard.

We do the same workaround at our firm. Standard 45 degree rotations and we add any additional rotations as needed on a per project basis. Since the family can be opened from the project and saved back to it, there is no need to overwrite the original family on the network. Just out of curiosity, we did create a family with the 'pointer' family arrayed at 10 degree rotations. It was insane and I don't recommend it.
