AutoCAD ADT 2004 will not let me change objects linetype scale (but it would last week)

I am unable to change a line's linetype scale in the properties menu. I click on the lt scale where it says 1.0000000 and retype .3 or whatever and it just goes back to 1.00000 and the hidden or dashed lines do not change. I changed object ltscales like this last week on the same file but now it does not work. Please help.

the layer didnt get locked did it?

Dumb question, but are you sure you were selecting a line and not an object?
