for a while now...every time i switch to model space...autocad gives me the NOT RESPONDING problem. i get the spinning icon and it seems to last forever. seriously...i can go get coffee and come back and its still thinking. i've cleared temp files in autocad. what could be causing this?

Errrr... dunno, could be allot of things.
Is it a really big AutoCAD file with lots of stuff that needs to be regenerated?
    Xrefs and/or image files attached?

Does this happen to a particular drawing or all drawings?

Hardware issue, you need a better, updated machine?

Have you purged the file including Regapps? (use the "-purge" command and type "regapps")

    Just some thoughts...

A few more for the list.
Do you have a lot of viewports on that layout? Lots of xrefs? PDF or an image file?

Is the layout part of a sheet set?

Check your options as well. Are you caching the tabs or performing a regen on switch? Are you allowing other to refedit your current drawing (and are they)?

We too are having this issue. layouts are not in sheet sets and have less than 5 viewports. our settings are on cacheing all tabs, not regen.

i tried purging regapps, which seemed to help in the short term, but i am still getting complaints about it on the same drawings.

    any ideas?
