    Unhappy Scale Issues

Can anyone give me some help please?
I have a drawing from our customer (I think created in autocad 2010) In model space the drawing is drawn at 1:1 as I would expect. The text heights are what I would expect to see in papaerspace at a scale of 1:100 ie 4.0, 2.5 etc. I have checked to see if the text styles are annotative & as far as I can see they are not. Also when I go to paperspace to set the viewport scale to get a reasonable view I need to set it at 1:4 where I would expect it to be at least at 1:100. This is a large University campus & when I check the measurement of the grid the distance between is 1000 which is correct.
    Units are set to unitless.
    Any help appreciated

I'm not quite sure of your actual issue, is the text not at a proper size (scale) in PS when you zoom 1:4?
The plan doesn't fit in the viewport?

What units is the drawing in? Metric? Imperial?
Decimal units where 1 unit = 1 foot? (civil)
    Architectural units?

1:4 viewport scale doesn't sound quite right for a large scale plan.

Can you post a sample of the drawing along with more info?

    Thanks
    Ted

Sorry for not making it very clear.
    The units are "unitless"
    Type is Decimal.
In model space the campus layout is drawn @1:1 & if I measure the grid the length between pints it is 1000 which is correct. also I have done a dist on several lengths we know to be correct & they are as they should be.
Also in model space, when I check the size of text instead of being something like 200, 250 which is what I would expect the text height is something like 4.0
I have checked that the text style is not annotative.
I tried adding text at what I would consider "normal" size & it was huge!
Switch to paper space & I want to set the vieport at 1:100 on an a0 layout. Result is a very small drawing, to get it to look like I think it should be I have to set the scale at 1:4 which as you say is not correct.
Unfortunatly I am not able to post the drawing for security reasons.
Thanks for your reply I hope this is a little clearer.

Make a copy of the file and delete any identifying geometry. Maybe leave a rectangle representing the size of the building. Then post that.

Are the model space units meters or millimeters? Paper space is always "paper" size, which is inches (imperial) or millimeters (metric), so you need to account for that additional scale factor if you are going from meters in model space to millimeters in paper space.

If you expect to use 1:100 but need to use 1:4, the ratio between them is 1:25 which makes it look like there is a mm/inch translation happening somewhere.
Check that the paperspce/layout border is actually the size you think it is, not 25.4 times bigger.
Check the values of dimscale and dimlfac whilst the correct dimstyle is set active.
    Check layout plot scale.

Thanks for your replies. I have checked both dimscale & dimlfac both are set to 1. Also I looked in the original dwg where I have changed nothing & in the dimension settings the alernative units are set to 25.4. This was what you thought was happening. I also checked the plot units & these are set to metric.
The drawing border is scaled at 1 & is a block.
Again thanks to all for your inputs much appreciated.

If you can't post the dwg, what about a screen shot?

Have you measured the dims of the border just to make sure it hasn't scaled?
Is the model in metres, 4xp would equal 1:250.

Thanks to all those who replied. I never got to the bottom of this as everything in paper space was as I expected. However I am pleased to say that we have done what we needed to do with the drawing so I don't think I need to keep scratching my head any longer!
Thanks again for all your help.
