    Default Robot Structural Analysis Tutorial

    Hey,

Are there some tutorials for RSA? I'm starting to work with this program and i never worked with a Analysis program before. So it has to start very simple with a beam or a slab.

    Thanks!!

    Werner.

But the "load combination" is not clear enough in that tutorial

    for example:
if I am using the BS8110 code, and entered the LL DL WL on a structure of 4 spans or more
how I can generate (AUTOMATICALLY) the cases for that structure?

    Hi,
Load combination functionality in Robot is somewhat different than in other analysis softwares. It provides some features that are more powerful and hence somewhat more complex. In order to get something that is easy to digest visually but perhaps not manage is to use the "manual" option of the Automatic Load combinations. The difference here is that with automatically generated "manual" combinations you will see each combination in both the "Analysis Types..." dialog as well as in the "Combinations Table".
So let's start with the following: (you may have already done the first couple steps)
    1. from Job Preferences, expand Design Codes and select Loads
    2. if BS8110 is not listed in the load combinations drop down, use "More Codes..." button to access and add BS8110 to the list of available codes.
    3. after selecting BS8110, go to Loads > Automatic Combinations... and select "Manual Combinations" then select "More..."
    4. Then select Next, then select all combinations to generate (select all button at bottom) and then "Generate..."
Now in the combinations table you will see all of your automatically generated load combinations. Also in analysis types you will see all the combinations listed which allows you to adjust the analysis paramters for each in the case where you want to do non-linear and/or P-delta analyses.

That's part one. Once you've gone through those steps and get a feel for what Robot is doing then we can talk about the automatic-automatic cases.

Let me know how that goes for you.
    Thanks,
    -Ken

There is a very detailed section on Robot Load combinations which may be of help for you as you dig into those further, in this new book: Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis Professional 2013 - Essentials located here: http://tiny.cc/RobotEssentialsa
