    Default Altering Storefront Door

I've used Revit off and on for a couple of years and am now the only person in my firm with Revit experience. Here's where I'm stuck. I need a single storefront door. The library comes with a double, but not a single. (It seems that every architect would need this and I think it should be included, but I digress!) I've spent all morning looking up answers and solutions and have nothing. So I am sending out these questions.

    1. I am taking the double door that comes with Revit and trying to convert it to a single. I can almost get it, but in the original, there is a "Center (Left/Right)" reference plane that's preventing me from getting my single door width. (I have created a width parameter in the family using the original outside reference planes). I just want to delete this center reference plane, but it won't let me. I've already changed it to "not a reference" and that doesn't make a difference. I tried to do this a couple of weeks ago with another family and gave up...why can't you delete existing reference planes? I've discovered that one of the most efficient ways to create a family is to alter an existing one but that won't work if I get stuck with these planes.

    2. Instead of trying to create this...does anyone know where I can get a good single door for storefront? There weren't any on autodesk seek that worked.

    Thanks for your help.

The Center (L/R) reference plane shouldn't hold you up. A single door is still going to have a Center. The door's solid geometry is probably constrained to the Center RP. Modify the geometry of the family to extend it beyond the Center Reference plane. Remember to check your plan and elevation views to be sure to clean up any leftover line work.

    Cheers,

Thank you to you both. I'm determined to figure this out...but haven't yet. Jeff - I unlocked everything that appeared to be contrained on the center plane, and moved my extrusion over which put the center line back into the center (it was previously on the edge). But still no go.

In the meantime...thanks Revitaoist, your door will at least help me get this project going while I try to master families!

Give a person a fish and they'll eat for a day, teach that person to fish and they'll eat for life (until all the fish are gone). If you post your family that you're trying to modify here, we can try to figure it out and give you the steps.

I have tried several times to upload an image and it won't let me. I'm using a png file that's 29KB large, which should work according to all of the guidelines. I have another question regarding sweeps, but it also requires uploading some images. If I can find out what the problem is, I'll upload them and you can help me figure out what I need to fix for future families! Thanks.

Are you getting an error message with the png? hvac_piping.pngScreenShot913.jpg Before or after you hit the upload button?

If your door is for a curtain wall then you should not create a width parameter as the door will size itself to the grids when loading into a curtain wall. Also, keep the centre (left/right) reference plane as this still remains as the centre of the door, single or double. The left and right reference planes in the family are needed for the door to size to the curtain wall grid when the family is loaded into the curtain wall in the project.
