    Default Spiral Baluster/Wall cut off

I'm wanting to create a wall that''s base follows the rising curve of a spiral stair. I also want the top of this wall to terminate at the level above so that is neatly lines up with curved wall above. Currently I'm using a modified rail profile to create the wall. The problem arises when I attempt to terminate the wall/rail to level above as 'rail family' it is not ''cutable''. I have also tried using the curved wall/railing as a 'jig' for a 3d sweep but this is problematic because the the profiles i attach to the 3d sweep do not sit 90 degrees to the floor and so I get a really distorted wall (great if your Frank Gehry). The modified rail option seems the best because is uniformly follows the stair profile. Is there some trick/work around to getting the rail/wall to terminate/cut with the level above?

It would be good to see a sketch of the desired result. However, I think it can be done with a couple of surfaces, and then wall by face.
