Default Area color fills - mask or block underlying walls, families?

Is it possible to have Area Color Fills block underlying families (e.g., walls, doors, etc.) so they don't show through the color fill? For example, we create an area that covers/combines three rooms. We would like the color fill so show as one object and obscure or block the walls of the rooms below.

In the image of model the existing plans are a combination of an AutoCAD base plan and Revit families.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
