Default ACA2012 Crashes on drawing open

Using ACA2012 mostly as if it were regular AutoCAD, no Project Navigator, no AEC objects, etc. When opening several of the files for what appears to be only one project the program gets all the way to the drawing appearing on the screen and then a message pops up saying that the program is not responding. No other users appear to be having this problem, and ACA2013 is able to open these same files but saving down for the other users would be a huge issue.

I've attempted to use the repair utility as well as several uninstall/reinstalls including one with the automated uninstall program from the Autodesk website, all to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions on other things to try? Even if they may seem obvious I'll take any help i can get

I had a problem when i opened the program and it had a Fatal Error pop up, and the repair/uninstall utility wouldn't even run! to fix this, IT deleted my Windows 7 user profile and reinstated it.
This seemed to fix the opening error, but I still get 'not responding' when I open xrefs etc.

Win_7 is very quick to report "not responding" when a program ignores interrupt requests, which acad does a lot - and always has.
It's not neccesarily a problem - unless it goes on long enough that it IS a problem. [How helpful is that statement? ]

Despite my earlier understanding that it wasn't happening to other users It definitely is now, but not for all users. One other network computer using Windows 7 and one using XP also crash, both on opening some of the files in this project. I also copied some to my laptop using windows 7 which also crashed ACA. Not sure if it's related but two users running ACA2011 on Windows XP machines don't appear to be having this problem, at least not yet.

Do you asigned a project name for those drawings?
If it is the case, try to remove it from "Project Files Search Path" in the "Option" dialog, under the "Files" tab.
And if this solves the problem, reset the System variable "Projectname" to "." on those drawings.

The "Project Files Search Path" is shown as Empty and I verified that the "Projectname" variable is set to none.

My latest attempt was to use 2011 to copy/paste the drawing into a brand new drawing file, including all xref's etc. This new drawing file will now open but no commands, buttons, or menus will work. The Command Line states that the drawing "has a command in
progress. Hit enter to cancel or [Retry]: Have to use the Task Manager to close the drawing/program.
