Hi All -

I keep getting this message coming up even when I'm adding a door or window opening to a wall.....
apart from being incredibly annoying after the first 20 times it has popped up I have know idea what it relates to directly?
Yes, I have modelled R.C. (Structural Framing) beams as footings, so I'm guessing they have something to do with it BUT why would
this message appear when I'm working on a wall??
Also looking/hoping for a way to stop it (the message) occuring, as it always requires a return keystroke to continue.

Any help greatly appreciated.

You can't cut footing objects. If you need to create a void in a footing, you'll need to create it as a model in place element or create a new one-off family.
What type of object where you using to cut the wall?
If you're making a door opening, why not use a door family with no frame?
No way to stop error messages when modeling errors occur. Remember you need to model the way revit needs you to model. Unlike the ACA, some tools/objects can only be used on certain tools or objects. As the Borg would say "You must assimilate."

So you're saying that it's the door frame that is attempting to 'cut' the footing each time I edit something (anyware) on the wall?
I'm not intentionally trying to cut a void in the footings so I guess I'll try the 'frameless' door option and see where that gets me, although I don't know whay the door frame would be having that affect on the footings?

the other thing you can do is to look at your error. Use the error message to bring you to the item in question. If you have some goofy modeling error, it may be best to delete that one element (I'm guessing that's what may be happening.) and then replaced with a new one.
I misread your post I guess. I thought you were using a footing a wall, but I guess your using a concrete beam as your footing?
If you're cutting your wall and you have any voids in it, that could be a problem.
Could you post a screen shot of the error message you get? That might help.

Thanks again Dave - yes, I am using a footing beam and yes, I think I have probably used a reference plane to cut one of the mebers at an intersection where it kept (stubbornly!) shooting past. That may be the problem. I'll check it out.

Anyway, thanks again for your help - it's given me something to investigate.
If I nail the problem I'll probably post back here just to close it off.

The only (and it's not a good one) work around I've found was to allow the beam to be modeled past where it should be (since "Hal" is always going to model the way "Hal" wants to) and use the opening by face tool to cut it back. Of course anytime you move anything near it, you may have to do it again or adjust the location of the opening cut. For being "Intelligent" object, they aren't very smart.
