Default Why sheet/layout background is WHITE by default

    Hi all,

I've always wondered why after so many iterations of AutoCAD, WHITE is always the default background for sheets/layouts.

It's not really an issue for me, I know how to change it to whatever color in the Options command - its just that I feel I might be missing the point/advantage to having a WHITE background.

    Your thoughts please..

As to why, that's something you would have to ask the developers. But my guess would be because that's the color that sheets are. Paper is white. WYSIWYG.

The settings are saved per dwg. eg. if I set the sheet color to 254 and saved save it as file1.dwg, then open a new file, change the color back to white and save as file2.dwg, when I open file1 again, the sheet will be 254. If you start a new dwg from a template, the sheet color will be whatever the current color is. When you save it, that color is retained in the dwg.

+ it makes it easy to tell a layout from modelspace. [I guess.]

Jimmy totally helped me out recently with his OLE_COLOR_LIST variable while coding my next Hot Tip Harry submission... I'm hoping this tip will be as successful as what Tim and I put together for [s]RK's[/s] Harry's review recently.
