Default Installing TTF in Windows 7 (not a valid font)

Ok, so I know this isn't CAD or Autodesk related, but I thought I would pick you brains anyway.

I have a new computer at home with Windows 7, and a disk with a whole bunch of TTF fonts I bought from Staples (or Office Depot, can't remember).

I have had the "cd-full-o-fonts" for quite a while, and had successfully installed the ones I wanted on the previous machine which had Windows XP Home Premium.

Now when i browse the cd and try to install the fonts I want, some work and other won't install, I get "Not a Valid Font" or something like that.

    Any suggestions?
I've seen other forums where they suggest trying to install the fonts through the control panel(?)
Why would some load and some be invalid (when they werent before)?

    Thanks
    Ted

are you sure that the same font that fails on Win7 is the same one that worked onXP?

other than the obvious, all I can suggest is to post one of the fonts that won't install, and let us look at it.

I'm pretty sure this is the case, I have a small part-time sign business where I'm running software that uses Windows TTF fonts.

I have the situation where I'm working on older files (previously created on the older machine) on my new machine and are missing some of the fonts.
So I've tried two different things: I've gone into both the old machine, and the cd and tried installing the same font and I get the "appears to be not a valid font".

Some of them do install, but some don't, but are on my old machine.
I was thinking Windows 7 had changed something to not allow older or certain TTF fonts? (Hoping it was a quick fix)

I can try to post a font that won't install, but it's not available to me right now.
    Ted
