    Default 120/208V Single Phase Issue

    Running MEP 2012

VERY long story short, I am attempting to feed a 120/208V single phase load center panel from a 120/208V three phase distribution panel. I can make the circuit, and the load will transfer, but the breaker is only 1 pole. I've messed with the families, circuits, everything... but Revit will not give me the 2 pole breaker. I believe the problem lies in the distribution system. A 120/208 single phase system has both the A and B busses, just like your residential load center at home. However, Revit takes the term 'single phase' too literally and will not show the connection to the feeder panel as 2 pole no matter what I do. I'm nearing rage status and was hoping one of the kind souls here at AUGI can help me out.

And no, I can't simply change the 120/208V single phase panels to 3 phase. These are the cards I have been dealt....

Open the Family for the single phase panel. Select the electrical connector and make sure that Number of Poles is set to 2.

Thank you for the speedy reply. I have tried that, but now it wont let me connect to the 120/208 3 phase panel. After making this change, when I select the single phase panel, it still shows the 120/208 single distribution system in the properties browser, but at the top of the screen just under the command bar, the distribution system selector is now blank. And when I attempt to make a power system, I can't select any panels.

The Panel's voltage must be set to 208V.

set the voltage/phase on the connector in the load center to 208/2 pole, and the connector in the meter center or distribution panel to 208/3 poles. make sure you have defined voltage system 120/208 as 3 phase, 4 wire. then make sure both are set to distribution system 120/208. create a circuit from the load center and it should let you connect it to the dist panel as a 2 pole breaker.

There it is, thanks guys. At first I was avoiding changing the load center to 208 2 pole because it messed up all the receptacle circuits I had already sent to the load center, but a few minutes of reconnecting has remedied that.

    Thanks again for your help.

WELL, IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN A WHILE SINCE YOU FOLKS HAD THIS CONVERSATION. I'M NEW TO REVIT MEP, AND IM HAVING A VERY SIMILAR ISSUE. HOWEVER, I CANNOT FIND THE "LOAD CANTER" OR "METER CENTER" SELECTIONS TO CHANGE, AS OUTLINED ABOVE.

IF THIS HAS CHANGED FROM 2011/2012, CAN SOMEONE POSSIBLY UPLOAD A SCREENSHOT OF THE DIALOG BOX WHERE I MIGHT MAKE THIS WORK?

You need to edit the family and adjust the settings of the electrical connector.

I'm still having problems. I changed the connector to 208v 2 pole but when I hook something up that a 2 pole. The 2nd leg doesn't show any load in it. What am I still doing wrong?

make sure the connector in the family is set to Power - Balanced load, not Unbalanced. that way it will divide the load of the device over the number of phases equally
