Room Tag Leaders

It seems like an odd way to attach a leader to a room tag with the leader tail hap-hazardly attaching to the tag with a gap. It is so close to the number box it looks like someone was lazy and missed the corner of the box. In my office this leader connection point would be the midpoint on one of sides of hte number box. Is there a way to change this?

The leader goes to a certain point that is, vertically, the center of the geometry drawn in the tag family, and horizontally, the farthest distance from the origin. Therefore, one way to fix it is to move the objects in the family, so that the box that contains the room number is centered, vertically, with the origin reference planes, and also, adding a rectangle as shown in this image, so that both maximum vertical and horizontal distances of the geometry of the family are equidistant from the origin. Set the rectangle to Not Visible. Now, the leader will be centered with the room tag, either with area or volume or without them, most of the times. It will only be off centered again when the room name is too long that it does not fit in the invisible box, becoming the largest distance.

We have been putting off transitioning to Revit from Acad Architecture because of a bunch of these types of issues. We want to correct to match our office standards.

Actually after implimenting the above 'work around' it causes more problems that it solves. Ive made 4 room tags and each has a leader connection point, right, left, bottom and no leader at all. This seems like a step backwards from AutoCad Architecture.

I don't think so. Revit is (many steps) forward from AutoCAD Architecture. And I used AutoCAD Architecture to the fullest degree, for several years. Happy 4th of July.

I would love to see a sample of a complex floor plan with dimensions, tags, schedules, that is used in a set of construction documents so I can see if the drafting standards are in tact or do I have to change our standards to work with Rivet.

I worked on this issue yesterday because someone was complaining about the same thing. You're still going to have problems when the name of the room extends past the width of the room number box. The leader will have a gap between the beginning of the leader and the room number box. There are just some things in Revit that you don't have full graphic control over but you have to ask yourself if it compromises the integrity of the set of drawings or if it's just bothering you. Revit facilitates a fully coordinated, extremely tight set of documents. I'd rather have that than a graphically strong set of Autocad documents that might not be as well coordinated. I have seen and worked on really beautiful Revit generated documents. It can be done...just takes some tweaking.

Yup, as I said, the leader will work most of the times, but if the room name does not fit, it will be off again. But, as stated above, I would not base my decision to switch to Revit or not on these graphic things, when I can get all the power of Revit in many other more important things.
