Thread: Diameter dimension keeps jumping

    Default Diameter dimension keeps jumping

Hello, I have been having a problem with some simple dimensioning. Basically I have a 3D plate that has four corners with a radius of 1/2 inch and 4 holes next to these corners. The holes share the same center point as the radius. When i try to add a diameter dimension to the hole it immediately jumps to the outer radius and the only way I have found around this is to either draw in 2D, or to draw a circle in model space and dimension that. This problem also happens with other objects when they are sharing the same center point. I am hoping that someone out there has an answer to this problem.

I see that many people have viewed this question but no suggestions as of yet. Is the question clear enough? Am I the only one who happens to have this problem?

post a sample drawing that exhibits the problem.

Is this what you can't do?
(This is a solid in A2010).

Hello Mike, I'm experiencing the same problem. I have a 3D part with a 3mm hole, that has a chamfer with an outer diameter of 9mm. When I try to dimension the 3mm hole it will first show me the 3.0, but when I hit enter to finish the command, the dimension will 'jump' to the chamfer and will read 9.0.
This seems to be an acad2013 problem. When I open the same drawing in acad2012 everything is fine. I have checked the system variables of both versions and they are all identical. Bug in 2013?!

Mike seems to have lost interest.
I just found the opposite of your problem - in 2013, on a solid, I could correctly dimension the 3mm hole but not the 9mm chamfer.
    The old (typed) -
    Code:
    Dim [space]Dia[space]
    method fixed it.

Yes and No. At first this seems to fix the problem. But when you leave the Dim command with 'exit', the new dimension will jump again.

    Hmm. So it does. Sorry.

Changing elevation doesn't help nor does changing UCS.

I am happy to see people finally trying to help solve this strange problem. I tried the dim space dia space and it almost worked, until i finished the command. I figure it must be something with settings or the 3D part itself. I have not had the problem if what I am dimensioning in 2D. Any more suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Must a new problem in 2013 (or 2012? ).

No problem in 2010 even without messing about with UCS.
There is an Adesk discussion about it here http://forums[dot]autodesk[dot]com/t5/AutoCAD-2013/Radius-and-Diameter-Dimensioning-Issues/td-p/3570310

    Replace the [dot]s - I can't post links.
