    Thanks Nancy,
Is it possible to put slope in a building pad?

    Oh, also -
I've got an existing conditions model. I have a separate model for my building addition we are doing with the existing model linked into it. The existing model has the topo in it too. Can the topo created from the "Graded Region" tool be in the addition model or does it have to be in the existing model?

Pads have the ability to have a line of the boundary define the slope, or to have a slope arrow placed (to achieve diagonal slope, or target drop/rise). Similar to floor/roof sloping capability (without the surface slope element features). Challenges we've had with sloped pads are where two sloping pads butt against each other, there are often 'slivers' of toposurface that bust through the crack. No resolution other than to regrade underneath (refutes purpose of using a pad) or to cut away/hide portions of the topo underneath (better, but still a management frustration).

    As for the (E) model:
I would separate the site from BOTH (E) and (N) building models. Remove site from (E) model, either by editing that archive model, or managing the link through it's workset (we place all links into their own workset).

Link the (E) bldg into (N) building, link SITE into (N) building. Link the Shell/Core workset of (N) building into the SITE. (Specify worksets during the linking process). This gives you the visual of the building shell to respond to with site modifications, but limits the amount of data being loaded/regenerated.

so: (E) building model can have the older version site linked to it (separate workset) so (E) Site is NOT loaded when (E) Bldg is linked into (N) Building. Set to Attachment so it will be seen when linked into (N) SITE.

    clear as mud?

    Hmm, kinda.

I was thinking of using a building pad for the parking area, but it wouldn't really work if I can't slope it the way I need to. I guess the floor slab is the option and then place points on it for sloping with contours.
