Default X-Refed Feature Lines Won't Plot Correctly

I have recently started using Civil 3D 2013 and I am getting some unexpected results when x-reffing drawings that contain feature lines.

What's happening is, I have feature lines whose styles assign them to various layers. In the feature line style the plot style is set to "ByLayer". Everything works fine in the drawing where the feature lines exist but When I x-ref this drawing into another drawing the feature lines assume the plot style of the layer that x-ref is on rather than that of the layers that are set in the feature line styles.

This is different from C3D 2012. Does anyone happen to know if this was an intentional change (although I can't imagine why it would be) or if it is a bug in the new release?

    I have not noticed this.

Does your feature line style place the feature line elements on layer 0?

No, the feature line style puts the element on a specific layer. With C3D 2012 I was able to control the plotting of the feature line by changing the plot style of the layer specified in the style.

suggest you create a unique layer name for the XREF, and then insert to that layer

Thanks for the response, Michael. I do have the XREF inserted on a unique layer. Unfortunately that does not solve my problem because I need the feature lines to plot with different plot styles according to the feature line styles that are assigned to them.

do those same styles exist in the Parent file that the XREF is attached to?
    If no, import them

    If yes....???

Thanks for the suggestion, Michael. The styles did not exist in the parent drawing so I imported them but that had no effect.
