Is Revit Architecture Viewer 2012 incompatible with Revit Server 2012?

It was identified, that Revit Architecture Viewer 2012 allows borrower status on elements, but prevents synchronizing with Central and relinquishing that borrower status for Revit Server 2012 projects. We submitted this to Autodesk Support, but am curious if anyone else has experienced this, or has identified a workaround besides Design Review or Navisworks.

I think we confirmed this issue is fixed with Revit Server 2013.

....received an update from development, they have found the differences in dealing with changed elements between file based and server based worksharing, and are working to change this behavior in a future release.
