Default Model Lines - True North/Project North

Tried to find this elsewhere because I thought it has been solved previously but could not find the thread

I have been applying a paint finish to a floor and the model lines for the material align to true north rather than project north. Is there a fix for this or am I doing something incorrect?

Can you select a model line in the pattern and align it to a wall. ?

( Sounds too simple - I must be misunderstanding.... )
