    Default Backwards Compatibility

Summary: The ability to save back to other versions.

Description: Revit currently restricts a user from being able to fully upgrade to new software due to the inability to save back to another version. Where external consultants are using an older version of the product, it means we also have to use the older version. In an ideal world, everyone would upgrade, however this is NOT the case. We live in hard economic times and not every consultant office has the means to upgrade each and every year. Some offices may use Revit for only a handful of jobs each year and cannot justify the money spent on the upgrade, some use an older version for information only, so see the 3D of the building, but use other software to draft in, this restricts them being able to view things. YES, some features may be lost in the save back version, but we accept this is AutoCAD - which has ALWAYS had a save backward feature. We are still saving drawings in AutoCAD back to 2000 files for some consultants, who use AutoCAD only for viewing of drawings and co-ordination, but do their drafting in another program - they cannot afford to upgrade every single program they have on their systems every year. We are lucky enough to have the latest programs, but are limited to being able to use them only on projects that are in house and can't leave the office (or have to be converted back to Autocad anyway!)
