    Default building walls transparent

I imported a 2-d autocad dwg, and used it as an outline. I created the walls, windows, stairs, etc in 3-D. All of the walls are transparent in 3-D view. I can't paint them. I looked at the materials properties, and even edited the walls to add a layer of "wood planks". Still transparent in 3-d. Lines appear grey on all of the walls.

In the elevations, the walls are opaque, but I still can't apply paint to them.

It looks as though when I imported the 2-d drawing at the start, I must have imported some parameters that messed up the Revit dwg(?). None of the properties windows under 3-D view seem to help.

Any idea what I could try?

Dwg too big to attach here.

    THanks!

What's your view Discipline set to? Try setting it to Coordination.

That brought me a step closer. I now have walls that are translucent, with the color of the wood planking. I edited the wall type, and put a 3/4" layer of "wood planks" on the exterior side. When I select a wall, and bring up the materials dialog, "wood planks" is shown. I expect to see a setting of "transparency" or something. BTW, the floor is also translucent, as are window frames for the windows I added.

maybe set your 3d view's discipline to architecture. i've never tried what you're doing, i've always tried to Make the walls and floors transparent. might want to ask the same question in the architecture or rendering forum groups...

I worked on the dwg over the weekend, and tried everything to get the materials to be opaque. Nothing worked, and I had to get it done - so - I started over again and recreated the dwg from scratch (w/o the underlying 2-D acad dwg file). THis time it worked out. It must have picked up some setting that Revit didn't like, and I couldn't fix it with visibility settings. By the way, you both are right that I did have to change discipline to Architecture to get the materials visible. I guess I'll have to change it back to mechanical to layout my ducts....

    Thanks!

Just duplicate the view and change the settings in each to suit your needs.

Thanks, Dmitri. Makes sense, never thought of having two identical views with different settings. I'll give it a try.
