In this tutorial we'll see how to realize dark background sheets on Autodesk Revit.
Why using dark backgrounds? While white color is a very communicative color, good for websites, like llumstudio.com, a dark color as background of architectural sheets or pictures enhances colors and drawings and puts on relief strokes and lines increasing the visual impact.
To obtain this image we need of some steps: in this case we already have a 3D model.

Procedure:

we need to compose the layout of the sheet and sobstitute the balck color of strikes with the white color, while fillings must be set with the same color as the background.
Create a new sheet right clicking on the project browser "sheet": "create new sheet". If necessary modify the layout of the sheet keeping only the boundary lines.

Import into Revit the background image going to "insert" tab.

Insert the image dragging it into the sheet.

Now insert all the drawings we need to compose the layout dragging them from the project browser. The order is important: before the background and then the drawings.

The dark layout is already pleasing but there are some imperfections about colors that have to be corrected: first of all we fix the black strokes because they can't be seen.

Go to "manage - object styles", select all and set white color as default color.

Click on "select all" and then on the color box: a window appears where you can set the white color.
In the same way repeat this operation on "annotation style" tab so we can change the color of all the annotations.
N.B.: for this tutorial we used to convert the global color of all strokes; in any case, it is possible to use different gradations of light/white colors on each object.
Now we have to change the color of all lines. Go to "Manage" tab, "additional settings", "line styles", click on "select all" then on the color box and set the white color for all kind of lines desired.
Now we have ovveridden all black colors on the sheet wit white color but it is possible that some elements remains black. So it is necessary to modify each black element we need to convert. Select all elements and right click: on the menu go to "override visibility and graphic". A new window appears: if the objects are bidimensional change the "projections lines color" and "cut lines colors" to white.

The last step is to change the color of all materials of tridimensional elements (walls, glasses etc.): it depends on the materials set for every object. Usually every object has its own color that depends on its material. What we have to do, to obtain a consistent layout, is to override the "surface pattern" of all materials with the color used as background. In this case the gray color has theese RGB values: 77 - 77 - 77.

With this method, the color of walls, glasses, windows and so on will assume the same color as the background; the white lines will be enhanced on the dark sheet and the layout appears very stunning.

The procedures are set using Autodesk revit 2012.
