I have been attending some more BIM events recently, and as usual, I've been irritated by the discussions of 'the owner needs this' 'the owner doesn't need that', and even when I attend with one of my PM's we're both saying "I'm the owner, and this is what I need."

So, as the request of a couple of people, I outlined who all the stakeholders are (to the best of my knowledge), and what they need from BIM.

The essence is that, if you've got someone watching over your drawings/models, playing to their standards will also allow you to give everyone else what they need.

Visible Owners:
Project Manager
Occupant
Finance
Real Estate

Real Owners:
Mechanics
Operations Administration (work orders/PM's)
Engineering / Facility Management
CAD/BIM Management

This is a simplification, and, I'd wager that most facilities have Real Estate under my breakdown of 'real owners' and they'd be more along with operations, running a CAFM and CMMS, but, that is not the case in our company.

I'd love some feedback from other owners about whether they have the same stakeholders with the same needs or not.
